MSG is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Fellow to join our growing team of Modern Scientists (biostatisticians, epidemiologists, health economists, analysts, researchers). The Research Fellow will have the opportunity to lead their own customized research and analyses projects on global public health and nutrition. The fellow will receive mentorship from lead scientists in global health, will have the opportunity to practice and fine-tune their research and analyses skills, may be provided opportunities to present their work in global forums, will work collaboratively with other scientists, and will receive support to publish their work. Research fellows will also have the opportunity to co-write research grants with MSG scientists.  Individuals will be able to work remotely, with regular engagement with the rest of the team at MSG through virtual office hours. The option of working on-site at MSG’s office space is open, though in-person meetings are not mandatory.    


Fellowships are unpaid and are a minimum of 4 months with 10-20 hours committed per week. Fellows who successfully contribute to and procure research grants during their fellowship, may have the opportunity to continue working with MSG beyond their fellowship term in a remunerated role.     


Qualifications  

The successful candidate must be a recent MSc, MPH or PhD graduate from an epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, social sciences, political science or any health-related graduate degree.    

  • Prior experience analyzing datasets on global public health outcomes is an asset
  • Prior quantitative research experience applying advanced statistical techniques and/or experience with qualitative data collection and synthesis.
  • Prior experience conducting systematic and scoping literature reviews Prior experience liaising with international research teams, policy makers and donors is an asset 
  • Experience and track history of writing and publishing scientific manuscripts 
  • Knowledge of statistical software such as Stata, SAS, R or SPSS. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Job Summary


MSG is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fashion Intern to join our growing team of Modern Scientists (biostatisticians, epidemiologists, health economists, analysts, researchers). The Fashion Intern will have the opportunity to assist on our endeavor to bring forth a sustainable, ethical, and practical MSG clothing line. The role will include: 


  • Research and communication with suppliers. 
  • Documenting, tracking, and updating the status of all samples. 
  • Participation in new product brainstorming and product strategy development. 
  • Assist with merchandise logistics.
  •  Other duties and projects as assigned.


The intern will receive mentorship from lead scientists in global health, will have the opportunity to research and design a clothing line with MSG.

Job Summary

MSG is seeking a Geospatial Climate Data Scientist to provide technical and analytic support on a variety of climate change-related projects. Our team will be advising several groups around the world working on projects related to climate change, and will be providing guidance on conceptual frameworks, theories of change, methodology, and dissemination.  Individuals will be able to work remotely, with regular engagement with the rest of the team at MSG through virtual office hours. Responsibilities  


Core responsibilities for the successful candidate include:  

  • Applying geospatial climate data science knowledge and skills to advise teams on how best to approach their climate science-related projects 
  • Helping teams develop, adjust and finalize novel and/or sophisticated data analysis plans involving geospatial climate change-related datasets  
  • Working closely with international teams on project goals and timelines
  • Help guide teams in writing robust, well-documented, and well-tested research code and code libraries

MSG is seeking a nutrition-focused health economist to provide support on a project aimed at estimating the cost of undernutrition on labour markets in low- and middle-income countries. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality economic models and will work with the MSG team to conduct targeted searches, review clinical and economic evidence, develop models, and disseminate findings. This global initiative brings together collaborators from academia, NGOs, and other high-profile stakeholders.  Individuals will be able to work remotely, with regular engagement with the rest of the team at MSG through virtual office hours. The option of working on-site at MSG’s office space is open, though in-person meetings are not mandatory.  


Responsibilities 


Core responsibilities for the successful candidate include:  

  • Nutrition modelling with stunting, wasting and anemia as potential outcomes.  
  • Exploring policies and interventions that aim to address under/overnutrition in low- and middle-income countries across the population spectrum including children, women, and adolescents.
  • Applying advanced statistical methodologies to clean, merge, analyze and weight datasets.  
  • Understanding and critically reviewing economic models specifically as used to study nutrition outcomes.

MSG is seeking a Public Relations/Communications Specialist to provide support managing a variety of social media platforms. We aim to use audio and visual media to show the work process of our start-up and be able to make global public health work more accessible by posting on large platforms. The successful candidate will have experience with professional communications strategies and will promote a positive public image and control the dissemination of information on MSG’s behalf. Ideally, the candidate is curious and creative, with ideas of how to present MSG’s work in our media products. 


Individuals will be able to work partly remotely and partly on site in MSG’s St. Catharine’s location. Candidates should be based in the Niagara region or able to travel to the office multiple times per week.

The successful candidate will have experience with professional makeup artistry. An understanding of enhancing facial aesthetics through makeup, and creating custom looks for clients is essential. Ideally, the candidate is curious and creative, with a ideas of how to present MSG’s employees in their best light in our media products.


Individuals will be required to work onsite in MSG’s St. Catharine’s location. Candidates should be based in the Niagara region or able to travel to the office multiple times per week.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities for the successful candidate include:

  • Collaborate and directly report to MSG employees to create makeup looks for posting on social media, website, and other promotional channels;
  • Work onsite in St. Catharine’s;
  • Bring in a variety of makeup and equipment (brushes, etc) in an array of colours to tailor to the client’s preferences;
  • Assess the client’s skin tone and complexion, as well as their specific requirements, if any, in order to determine the necessary products and materials they will use;
  • Prepare the skin for makeup application;
  • Help with minor hair styling;
  • Participate in the planning of makeup looks.


Qualifications

The successful candidate must have either a degree in aesthetics or similar degree with at least two (2) years of experience, or five (5) or more years of experience and a portfolio highlighting their work. 

  • Professional mastery as a makeup artist
  • Taking lighting and setting into account when applying makeup.
  • Having knowledge of different colour palettes and design styles.
  • Maintaining an awareness of the latest trends in beauty.
  • Having a diverse cosmetic toolkit.
  • Operating within health and safety regulations

Sound Engineer (Closed)

MSG is seeking a Sound Engineer to provide support on a variety of multimedia projects. We aim to use audio and visual media to show the work process of our start-up and be able to make global public health work more accessible by posting on large platforms. The successful candidate will have experience in audio production including mixing and mastering music. In addition, they understand how to create a compelling narrative through audio, and how to use a mix of narration, tape, music, and other audio assets to convey a message. Ideally, the candidate is curious and creative, with a multitude of ideas of how to translate MSG’s work into compelling media products.


Individuals will be able to work partly remotely and partly on site in MSG’s St. Catharine’s location. Candidates should be based in the Niagara region or able to travel to the office multiple times per week. 


Responsibilities

Core responsibilities for the successful candidate include:

  • Set up, preparation, operation and adjustment of audio, recording, editing and reproducing equipment in order to record, edit and reproduce sound input;
  • Ensuring the delivery of high-quality audio, and audio edits for continuity, style, consistency, and structure;
  • Responsible for overseeing recording sessions, audio clean up and editing, and mixing and mastering the audio;
  • Sourcing music and sound or composing original content as required;
  • Brainstorming and collaborating with the rest of the team to develop compelling content and creative storytelling formats;
  • Working closely with the team on programming needs such as planning, producing, scripting, and editing as required.


Qualifications

The successful candidate must have either a degree in sound engineering or similar with at least two (2) years of experience, or five (5) or more years of experience and a portfolio highlighting a variety of audio formats. These can include interview and narrative style podcasts with multiple voices, audio clips, and music. 

  • Proven experience as recording engineer
  • Experience using a variety of software for example: Protools, Izotope RX Production Suite and Descript
  • Expertise in the operation of audio-visual or electronic equipment
  • Experience in the preparation and operation of videotape recording and playback equipment to edit video after production
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation of audio consoles or computers, tape machines, microphones and sound processing equipment
  • Expertise in the operation of mixing, dubbing, editing machinery and equipment
  • Technical expertise in sound engineering techniques (e.g. equalization)
  • Experience with sound editing and recording equipment (e.g. mixing consoles)
  • Working knowledge of recording software and hardware (e.g. Pro Tools)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with team members and liaise with study investigators.

We aim to use audio and visual media to show the work process of our start-up and be able to make global public health work more accessible by posting on large platforms. The successful candidate will have experience with professional photography and videography. In addition, they will have their own full-frame camera, wide lens, vehicle, and computer with updated Adobe Premiere Pro. MSG will set up additional infrastructure as needed (e.g. mics, cameras). An understanding of how to create a compelling narrative through visual media, and how to use a mix of photography and video to convey a message is essential. Ideally, the candidate is curious and creative, with a multitude of ideas of how to translate MSG’s work into compelling media products.


Individuals will be able to work partly remotely and partly on site in MSG’s St. Catharine’s location. Candidates should be based in the Niagara region or able to travel to the office multiple times per week.

  • Manage and oversee all technical aspects of video recording and editing;
  • Develop an overall video brand messaging strategy.


Qualifications

The successful candidate must have either a degree in film editing or similar degree with at least two (2) years of experience, or five (5) or more years of experience and a portfolio highlighting a variety of visual formats. 

  • Professional mastery as photographer/videographer
  • Experience using a variety of software for example: Adobe Premiere Pro 2020, Adobe Suites - After Effects/Premiere Pro/Photoshop/Lightroom
  • Expertise in the operation of video/photography and editing equipment
  • Knowledge and a good understanding of motion graphics is preferred
  • Experience in the preparation and operation of video recording and playback equipment to edit video after production
  • Experienced and interested in creating video for a variety of digital platforms (Youtube, Instagram, TikTok)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with team members and liaise with study investigators.
